Post 1 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 04-Feb-2006 19:42:05

This game is one of my new favorites. The online play is incredibly fun and so is the offline play. Very realistic for the most part.

Post 2 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Saturday, 04-Feb-2006 23:20:37

Yes, I, too, am having fun with it, though I need plenty of practice, especially with the on-line play.

Post 3 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Sunday, 05-Feb-2006 0:06:36

I tried playing it, but I'm not very good.

Post 4 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Sunday, 05-Feb-2006 8:27:31

If anyone is hosting a server sometime, tell me. I love online play and I guess I'm not too bad. I was doing really good the other day.

Post 5 by Liz (The Original) on Sunday, 05-Feb-2006 11:32:41

I like it, too, especially the online play. I might not be too good yet, but it's all and fun, so it works.

Post 6 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Sunday, 05-Feb-2006 13:54:39

In deed!

Am a little clumzy, but, the online play makes it fun, especially if all in the session are clutzim like me. LOL.

To add to the online play fun, consider also having your ventrilo client connected to a server and channel where all the players are present.

Happy Racing,

Post 7 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Sunday, 05-Feb-2006 14:18:34

lol, i'd imagine that trying to voice chat as well as playing that game would make it very nearly impossible. it's hard enough as it is! i've tried to play it a few times but i'm no better than totally useless at the moment. i can do okay with no other cars on the track! i'm get seriously crap there after.

i haven't tried any online playing yet but i fully intend too at some stage. it's a good game for sure. thumbs up to whom ever made it.

Post 8 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 06-Feb-2006 16:47:38

That's what we do... So you can know who's droppin out or whatever.

Post 9 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Monday, 06-Feb-2006 22:59:03

Yah, and having voice chat going on while playing adds to the fun. You need to know the car numbers of the players. A nice addition to TopSpeed's online play would be some sort of usernames.

Cheers,

Dave

Post 10 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Tuesday, 07-Feb-2006 17:12:07

Yeh, that would be. Also, when the track/car creater comes out, a cool addition would be to submit a track or car and then the the person running the server could accept or deny it. LOL, I can't explain it very well...

Post 11 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Tuesday, 07-Feb-2006 18:27:43

I think I get you, Sk8Kid1.

Post 14 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2006 17:17:13

There's bryanbkm.blogdns.org and josephweakland.no-ip.org. The former is also a ventrilo server. I think both are part-time, so, ping them first.

Post 15 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2006 21:19:31

I made some cars on my own, their okay...

Post 16 by rail racer (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 10-Feb-2006 22:41:26

Well I have made a couple of cars but no tracks yet. I do no how to make them. One thing that would be cool for making the track is to have your own background music, race anouncer, co pilet, etc. This is a racing game that kicks ass. I give a ten out of ten.

Post 17 by Telemachus (Death: the destroyer of worlds.) on Friday, 10-Feb-2006 23:37:42

I love the game! I hate those damn hairpin turns, though. I crash most of the time going through those.

Post 18 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 0:07:57

I trust, you'll get better at anticipating the hairpin turns as you get to learn the tracks. Is it my imagination, or does the co-pilot give almost no advance warning of the hairpins?

Cheers,

Dave

Post 19 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 11:05:13

You have to memorize the tracks. I'm makin a track for every U.S. state.

Post 20 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 14:25:46

Hmmmm...

Maybe it's time for a Boston street adventure? LOL. I wonder if one can do one-way streets?

Cheers,

-Dave

Post 21 by Telemachus (Death: the destroyer of worlds.) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 19:12:07

Mmm, a track for every state would be cool. It would, I suspect, take a lot of work though. I think that some of the tracks should be built by train tracks. If you don't stop and a train comes... smash! I wish I knew how to make tracks.

Post 22 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 22:39:11

Hmmmm...

There's much potential in the "street adventures". LOL. Is there a tool for making tracks, or, do people use the ones provided as examples?

-Dave

Post 23 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 11-Feb-2006 22:41:33

The info's on the comunity site. You can't do things like the train thingy although that'd be sweet. I submitted some of my tracks to the comunity site. They're up.

Post 24 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Monday, 13-Feb-2006 1:12:08

I enjoyed racing you Saturday evening.

Guys, the point of the game isn't to kill as many people as possible, that's SOD.
Dave: I'd like to play you in a "rematch" sometime.

Post 32 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Wednesday, 15-Feb-2006 2:16:46

Thanks for the invite; just say "when", we can do it.

Gang: I made a new track; it's only in first draft; I call it Maine Coast. If you want it, let me know. It's not yet in the Topspeed community area; needs more work. Some feedback is welcome.

I have several of the new tracks, and cars from "Playing In The Dark" online, and even though I haven't really figured out how to play an online game of TS2, I go for a match sometime.
I'm just not sure when though.

Post 35 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 20-Feb-2006 18:38:05

It's easy to play online. You just need to put the ip in the server selecter and then go to the game and multi player game and internet game and... and... and... Just kidding, but what I told you to do was correct.

Ok, 5 PM (EST). I'm there. Will be listening in the Game Room channel on the Zone's ventrilo server. If there's action, I'll fire up TS-2 and join y'all.

I raced after not playing for awhile and I bet Joe Weakland!

Post 48 by rail racer (Zone BBS Addict) on Tuesday, 14-Mar-2006 22:53:11

One thing that would be cool, background music, race announcer, co piolet, and a turn signal that would be toggled by pressing enter so that you can distinguish your carfrom the other cars. And I have also noticed thaat the computer never selects your cars that you download or make. It doesn't even select the two motorcycles that come by default with the game. And if the computer players finish there laps, they rome around the track instead of stopping like your car does when you finish the laps.

Post 49 by Polka dots and Moonbeams (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Wednesday, 15-Mar-2006 7:55:35

Ok y'all, this game sounds way too fun! It is also sounding a little technical. How easy is it? I don't know anything about making computer tracks or cars. Can I just download the game, read the rules, and play? The Maine coast track sounds cool, would it be difficult to get that one. Tell me a little more please. If I got to the point of racing online, do I need to make adjustments to my firewall and security settings? Thank you!

Post 50 by sk8kid (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 15-Mar-2006 21:07:41

It's very easy. Just us topspeed junkys make tracks, LOL. It's really fun and easy. Tracks are easy to get and if you don't know how, it's easy to learn. Making cars and tracks is actually easy as well! I haven't hosted the maincoast track. It is a little, well... Um, er, different.

Post 51 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Thursday, 16-Mar-2006 0:29:25

I made a Maine Coast track, but didn't share it with anyone. Who made this one of which you speak? I'll compare it to mine.

Cheers,

Dave

Post 55 by softy5310 (Fuzzy's best angel) on Saturday, 29-Jul-2006 19:28:26

Hi,
Would anyone mind explaining to me, in real simple terminology, how to create tracks? I looked at the community site and I thought I understood, until I looked at a track file myself. It didn't make much sense to me. I have a feeling I'll enjoy creating tracks more than I do playing the game. Lol. If someone would like to explain how to create cars too, that would be awesome, but it's not a requirement.
Thank You very much,
Dawnielle

Post 56 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Saturday, 05-Aug-2006 19:09:56

Making tracks is easy, but the tricky thing is getting it so they work without you or the computer constantly crashing because you screwed something up and you have no monoverability.
The game is not set up to allow anyone to use there own cars or tracks since that woulod be too much of a disadvantiage.
And if he online game isn't allowing you to use the default motorcycles ten I suggest redownloading it because you can deffinitly use them.

Post 57 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Sunday, 06-Aug-2006 0:07:47

My understanding is that the computer will never use the default motorcycles in things like 'quickstart' and 'single race' modes.

Post 58 by fuzzy101 (The master of fuzz!!) on Sunday, 06-Aug-2006 12:45:27

You can use the default motorcycles in single race mode.
I should know, I just recently had some races with both of them.
My adevice is stay away from the wild cat one, it's crap.

Post 59 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Sunday, 06-Aug-2006 16:16:05

Thanks for the advice re: the wildcat motorcycle. Regarding my previous comment, I stand corrected. In my experience with 'quickstart' and 'single race', the computer has never put the motorcycles on the track with me.

Hi all, I see it's been a while since the last post to this thread, never the less I've recently taken up playing the game again however, I'm finding the community site worse than useless, when I attempt to connect to it it asks me to install some plug in, then whether I allow this plug in to install or not, the site just won't work for me! LOL. Anyway the point of all this is, I'd really like to know how to go about creating my own vehicles? Could anybody possibly explain on here how this is done?

Thanks for any help.

Dan.

Post 61 by Drummerdaniels (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 11-Jan-2008 13:28:04

I don't know about creating your own vehicles, but you can add new vehicles and tracks to the game. I haven't played top speed 2 in a while. but when i do it kicks ass especially when your playing against other players.

Post 62 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Friday, 11-Jan-2008 17:56:01

Thanks to the zoner who resurrected this topic. Lol. This morning, I played the game, after months of inattention to it. I had become bored with playing it by my self. Now, it's fun again. Who wants to be a server some time?

Post 63 by chikorita (move over school!) on Friday, 11-Jan-2008 20:18:19

Is it very easy to play a game over the internet? I've just given up on that and played with my friends on a local network game, because it takes so long to connect.

Post 68 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 21-Jan-2008 11:22:53

Does anyone know how to create the tracks or cars on topspeed2? I did ask someone, but he keeps forgetting to e-mail me the instructions.

Post 69 by Harp (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Monday, 21-Jan-2008 15:45:57

Actually I must confess to cheating here a little in the end, however I had no choice what with the (Playing in the Dark) website not working properly for me. What I did was to download a vehicle that somebody else had created, and then just open the vehicles .VHC file in notepad and modify things from there. You can change all of the cars/bikes characteristics such as acceleration, breaking, top speed etc. Plus if you have available sound files that you wish to use for the vehicles sound, you can even instruct the files to use them instead of what originally came with the download.

Like I say, it is slightly cheating in so much as you're just modifying somebody else's work instead of doing it all yourself from scratch, however the end result is your own car or bike and anyway, what's wrong with taking the occasional shortcut? LOL.

As for making your own track, I did find a track maker that somebody had available for download on another website not directly associated with (Playing in the Dark), however I couldn't tell you now the URL for that site. I found it though by just putting "Topspeed2" in to google. ?Try that and I'm sure you'll come across it quickly enough. That said, although I did create my own track using it, It wasn't very good and frankly, I'm not sure what I need to do to achieve better results. But give it a go, you may well have more joy than me.

Hope at least some of that helps.

Dan.

I had nothing else to do one day at school and decided to play Top Speed 2. Come to find out, it doesn't work at school. i can't even get it to read the menu options at startup. It works fine at home. How could the network block it if it doesn't know about it, and why does it not work when I'm not even playing on a server?

Hey all:
I need some tips and tricks. I've played for weeks now, and still haven't found a way to get through those hair pin turns. Let's start from scratch, what is a hair pin turn? What strategy should I use when taking this turn? Any help would be appreciated. As you can tell, I'm a beginner. However, as soon as I get better, you can bet I'll be online with the rest of you, racing my computer to pieces. haha.

Post 77 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Wednesday, 06-Feb-2008 10:47:31

I've just downloaded Topspeed2 last week, but haven't managed to complete a race or complete all the circ uits of just one track without crashing, especially on the hairpin bends even with Automatic transmition and as an earlier poster says, the co-pilot gives you hardly any notice before you crash wne you draw nearer a hairpin bend. That's why I'd be a complete and utter embarrassment to anybody on any servers if I played online just now, lmfao, mind you, my favourite cars are the cranked-up quatro and the fistey mini, plus the, er, well I've clean forgotten the name, but it isn't the Wild Cat motorcycle, lmfao. I'm dreading installing new cars and tracks though.

Jen.

Post 78 by Dave_H (the boringest guy you'll ever know) on Wednesday, 06-Feb-2008 12:36:38

With practice, you will be able to anticipate the hairpin bends and go into them slowly. When to slow and by how much depends on the car.
